Marilyn the Model
Norma
Jean started her modeling career during a time when pretty faces were
being sought all over the country as a means of distraction for the men
serving in the war. It kept the soldiers focused on who they were fighting
for and what was waiting for them at home.
Transformations
Norma Jean was noticed by a photographer while she was working in a factory.
After posing for photos she set out to be the star she always dreamed
of being. The director at the modelling agency knowing that Norma Jean
could emerge as the diamond in the ruff had her make a few physical changes;
her hair was dyed blonde and she had plastic surgery on her face. This
was the beginning of a transformation that would establish a new identity
for this young model.
Norma Jean had that innocent childish look that was universally admired.
Learning the tricks of the trade was not tough as she was a natural who
was very comfortable with the camera. Marilyn Monroe posters were everywhere
as she was presented to the world. Magazines all over the country were
quick to put her on the covers as she became a hot commodity in the world
of modelling. When nude photos of her appeared on the cover of the first
issue of Playboy
Magazine it sent the world in a frenzy! Suddenly Marilyn Monroe posters
were in great demand. This was the first controversial event in her career
but it would not be the last.
Acting
Inspirations
She had always desired to be an actress. When she reached the high point
in her modelling career she convinced Ben
Lyon (who was in charge of the young talents for the Twentieth
Century Fox) to sign her on. She changed her name to Marilyn Monroe
and dreaming big, set out to make her place in the world.
Marilyn Monroe posters of movies she starred in such as "The Asphalt
Jungle," and "Don't Bother to Knock" are sought by collectors
all over the world who want a piece of her when she started out in the
business.
